Those who prefer to soak in culture after hours will be pleased to hear that Auckland War Memorial Museum Tāmaki Paenga Hira is staying open late every Tuesday evening until 8.30pm.

Late-night events are nothing new for the Museum; it regularly presents panel talks, intimate concerts and relaxed social gatherings for singles. During the Twilight Tuesdays evenings visitors are invited to take in the relaxed atmosphere and wander through the beautifully-lit galleries.

The new Te Ao Mārama South Atrium is also open for exploration.  Several stunning artworks sit in the foyer — all of them by Māori and Pacific artists. Architect Noel Lane's huge timber centrepiece, Talitali 'Au Moana, is fully exposed, serving as an impression of a Fijian kava bowl and featuring its own looping animated audio-visual experience. Also worth a trip are several key installations, including the giant 167 million-year-old skeleton of Peter the T-Rex, and a stunning exhibition of Ancient Greek treasures.

And why not make a night of it by visiting the sit-down bistro for a meal? The Kiwiana-inspired menu at Tuitui Museum Bistro & Café includes the likes of fish and chips, slow roast beef short rib, crispy pork belly and woodfired pizzas.
