Even if you've never ventured down to the southern states of America, it's likely you'll still know about their soul food. Low & Slow in Port Adelaide is serving up a taste of that southern fare,  from collard greens to mac 'n' cheese and lots of slow-cooked meats.

Next to meats smoked over a blend of hickory and oak for up to 18 hours, pickles and a side of apple slaw ($4) offer a light, tangy balance. Its thick slices of cornbread ($4) are best put to use by sopping up the flavoursome puddles pooling around the pulled pork and beef brisket (both $9 per 100 grams).

Rest assured, your eyes will always be bigger than your belly here. Making your way through the entirety of its glistening dinner banquet ($39 a head) is a feat that requires a team of your hungriest friends.

Prepare to get your hands dirty in an unpretentious setting, with sticky pork ribs ($30–59), corn on the cob ($4), and explosive hot wings ($12) with a blue cheese sauce.

The pitmasters prepare and smoke everything on-site, so you'll smell your food before you're even seated. We suggest wearing your loosest fitting pants when dining here.
